Packaged Chips

Packaged chips are a convenient snack, but often contain high levels of sodium, fats, and additives. Choosing healthier versions made from whole grains and seasoned with natural ingredients can provide a better snacking option. Always read labels carefully to select chips that are lower in harmful substances and align with a balanced diet.

1. Sodium Content: Choose chips with less than 140 mg of sodium per serving. High sodium intake can contribute to high blood pressure and other cardiovascular issues.

2. Fat Content: Opt for chips that contain less than 10 grams of total fat per serving, with saturated fat kept under 3 grams per serving. This helps manage calorie intake and reduce the risk of heart disease.

3. Trans Fats: Ensure the chips contain 0 grams of trans fats per serving, as trans fats are particularly harmful to cardiovascular health.

4. Ingredients: Choose chips made from high-quality, natural sources such as whole potatoes, real banana slices, or whole tapioca. Prefer chips cooked in healthier oils like olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil. These oils have a better nutritional profile compared to traditional options like palm oil or hydrogenated fats.

5. Fiber: Aim for chips that provide at least 2 grams of fiber per serving. Fiber is beneficial for digestive health and helps regulate blood sugar levels.

6. Additives: Avoid chips with more than 3 artificial additives such as colors, flavors, or preservatives. Specifically avoid chips that contain MSG (monosodium glutamate), artificial colors (like Red 40, Blue 1), and artificial preservatives (such as TBHQ and BHT).

7. Caloric content: Look for chips that offer fewer than 150 calories per serving. This helps in managing total daily caloric intake, which is crucial for maintaining a healthy weight.

Select packaged chips that are low in sodium and fat, contain no trans fats, and are made from whole grains. Choose options with fewer than 150 calories and minimal artificial additives per serving.
